Nigel Line - Managing Director

Nigel grew up in Adelaide and immersed himself in the music scene, either playing bass in a band or sound engineering.  Armed with his bass rig and the shirt on his back, he chased a bigger dream in both Sydney and Perth, before settling into Brisbane in 1985.  He then launched into a sales role at Smithys, before purchasing the business just 6 months later.   With ambition to burn and a passion for the industry, Nigel expanded into the hire market, and Smithys became Brisbane Concert Sound in 1986.  The business moved from Roma Street to Fortitude Valley in 1990 where he teamed up with a partner to create Musicworx.    Sensing an opportunity, he moved away from musical instruments and into entertainment technologies.  With hire and sales rapidly growing, Brisbane Concert Sound relocated to a larger premises in Bowen Hills, expanding its service portfolio into repairs and installation. 

In 2004, the building became a victim of the inner city bypass development, and the business now affectionately known as Brisbane Sound Group moved down the road into a central location.   With a strong foothold in sales, hire, service and installation, Nigel still had an itch to scratch, and made the bold decision to expand into production on a larger scale.  Now specialising in sound, lighting and vision, a second premises was required to house the production department.  With the business now bursting at the seams, the decision was made to triple the foot print, and settle into the perfect home in Northgate in 2016.  Nigel is the embodiment of hard work and determination.   He runs his business with integrity and passion, and it a respected leader to his loyal staff.

Michelle Williams -Business Operations Manager

Michelle has over 20 years’ experience with BSG and has been instrumental in the company’s growth over the years.  Highly focused with a comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of operations, business and finance, Michelle has streamlined processes across all areas to increase efficiency and improve the customer experience.  Michelle served as Sales Manager for seven years before moving into a management role.  Her organisational skills and industry experience are a highly valued resource. Michelle’s background includes a Bachelor degree in Music (Sonology), and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). 

Rachael Stevens - Administration Assistant

Rachael has transformed business processes and organisation for the past 6 years in her role as Administration Assistant.  Prior to her role at BSG, Rachael served as a Manager and Personal Assistant for various small businesses.  Her spreadsheet savvy has enabled a quick turnaround when suppliers change their product ranges and pricing.  Her attention to detail and work ethic have improved information flow throughout the business.

Sales Department

Sam Walter -Sales Manager

Armed with over 18 years of practical experience with lighting design and operation, Sam brings to the business a wealth of knowledge in delivering on client expectations.   Sam spent 12 years at the forefront of lighting design for concerts, theatre, corporate and broadcast.  As Sales Manager, he has overseen a rapid growth in product ranges offered and has been instrumental in the expansion of our Lighting and Audio Visual departments.   With Diploma qualifications in Marketing, Business, Management, Stage and Theatre Production, Sam initiates our digital media promotions and marketing.  With a loyal client base and exceptional attention to detail, Sam is a respected and valued member of the sales team.
Brenten Blury -Sales Specialist

Brenten grew up in Michigan, USA and moved to Australia in 2009.  He completed a Diploma of Ministry – Worship and Creative Arts and served as an Audio Production Manager at Hillsong Sydney City Campuses from 2012 – 2016 before moving to Brisbane.  Along with his commitment to the creative team at Hillsong Brisbane West, Brenten is a valued member of the BSG sales team.  Drawing on his decade of experience in live sound engineering and production management, Brenten offers real world knowledge and understanding.  A self-confessed “neat freak”, Brenten ensures the sales showroom is pristine and operational at all times, and specialises in matching customers with a solution to suit their expectation and budget.
John Conway -Sales Specialist

John is a motivated and customer-focused member of our team with over 32 years of industry experience including 9 years with BSG.  John has a well-established history in music retail, with over 20 years of store management roles in Melbourne and Queensland across Musical Instruments, Pro Audio, Recorded Music and Consumer Electronics.  John is an avid live and session musician who is still performing and teaching in his spare time.  John has completed studies in Management, HR Management and Music.  His attention to detail and exceptional customer service are a highly valued resource.
Josh Bonnici -Sales Support & Logistics

With a background in marketing, tour management and production, Josh possesses a unique range of skills and experience.  Specialising in social media marketing and customer service, Josh has played a vital role in developing our online store and logistical operations.   Josh’s attitude of continuous improvement and willingness to learn and develop further skills sets an enviable example for others.   
Josiah Kerridge -Sales Specialist

Josiah joined our sales team 4 years ago after gaining valuable experience in church A/V and production.  Grabbing the opportunity with both hands, Josiah has forged ahead with his technical knowledge, practical experience and customer service.  With a dedicated approach to finding the best long term solution for the client, Josiah is well aligned with our vision of best service guaranteed.
Rob Bird - Pro Audio, ICT & Technical Resources

Having worked professionally for over 16 years, Rob’s deep technical knowledge of audio and studio equipment and applications has evolved into a highly focused customer support role at BSG.   Rob started out working in corporate production in Sydney, and spent 8 years at IJS in Brisbane as an Audio Engineer.  In that time Rob was also a Project Manager for festivals, concerts, touring and theatre.  For the past 7 years, Rob has provided invaluable IT and technical support at BSG ensuring a positive outcome for our clients and exceptional customer service.  Rob is an Avid Pro Tools and Avid Venue/S6L Certified Support Representative, has Audinate Dante Certification and holds a Certificate IV in Technical Production.

Hire & Production


Alf Velm - Hire Manager

With over 40 years’ experience in the industry and 28 of those with BSG, Alf delivers unrivalled experience, organisation and dedication to his role as Hire Manager.  Alf previously worked as a freelance operator from 1981 – 1988 in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and on various P&O Cruises.  In 1988, Alf was heavily involved with Word Expo 88 including equipment installation prior to opening and operation during the 6 month event.   He then worked in the UK for Samuelsons AV and Audio Visual Tech.  Alf moved back to Brisbane in 1990 as a freelance operator before taking up his position at BSG.  Alf provides excellent support to our team in a mentoring role, focusing on organisation, processes and customer service.

Andrew Batch - Production Assistant

Andrew embarked on his career path in 1996 with Channel 9 working on outside broadcasts and eventually moving into studio work.  He then served in various in house and production roles before joining BSG’s production team in 2013.  Ticketed in Elevated Work Platform, Rigging, Forklift and Test and Tag, Andrew is a constant source of information and experience.   He has been instrumental in our transition to offer a complete audio visual package to the client, providing technical support to staff and customers alike.   His extensive knowledge across audio, lighting and vision are a valued asset.

James Young - Production Assistant

With over 10 years production experience and over 6 of those with BSG, James is well versed in delivering on client expectations.  He is always willing to go the extra mile to achieve a great result for the customer, and is helpful and diligent in his approach.   James holds a forklift ticket, and is proficient is Shure Wireless Workbench 6, Dante networking for Yamaha & Shure systems, and d&b R1 and Array Calc.  His positive mindset and “never give up” attitude ensure targets are met.

Installations


Matt Cartwright - Installations Manager

With over 18 years’ experience in the Audio Visual Industry and a Diploma in Project Management, Matt brings a wealth of application and organisational knowledge to the Installation team.  Matt’s ability to work with both BSG staff over the past 12 years and our varied subcontractors has positioned us to always provide the best skilled practitioners in every discipline we encounter.  Whether it is rigging, programming, cabling or acoustic tuning, Matt has come across it, dealt with it appropriately and achieved a great result.  Matt is QSC Q-sys L2 certified and holds Scissor and Forklift tickets.  Matt has been our man on the ground for our largest projects, and is skilled in working in with other  trades and contractors to ensure a well-integrated, seamless result is achieved for the customer.

Dean Capraro - Installation Project Manager

Dean serves on our team as our lead installer and Project Manager.  With over 20 years’ experience hanging equipment from every surface imaginable, Dean offers experience, knowledge and innovation.  Dean has previously studied an Advanced Diploma in Audio Engineering and has had 10 years production industry experience.   He is Crestron DM-4K certified, and is licenced in open cabling, rigging, scaffolding, boom lift, scissor lift, forklift, and has a construction and blue card.  Stepping out of his comfort zone, Dean has taken on a Project Management role in recent years drawing on his experiences and excellent communication skills with clients, sub-contractors and other trades.  His leadership and attitude ensures a successful project that is delivered on time and on budget.

Joel Keenan - Installation Technician

Starting out in the industry as a guitar tech, tour manager and later a rigger, Joel brings a wealth of experience to his role as installation technician and lead rigger.  Ensuring we are always within safe working practices, Joel sets an example to the rest of our team in safety and correct rigging methodology.   Joel has studied a Diploma in Music Performance, a Cert IV in Occupational Health and Safety, and is ticketed in dogging, basic rigging, basic scaffolding, elevated work platform and forklift.  He also holds a construction white card, blue card and working safely at heights.  Joel’s black and white approach to safety and work practices are a valued resource.

Malcolm Embleton - Technical Support & Systems Specialist

Mal has been involved with BSG for over 15 years as a customer, a contractor and now a full time team member.  Mal’s experience spans 25 years, including operating for corporate presentations, gala dinners and concerts for various venues and clients.  Mal has also worked as a Communications Technician and commissioned jobs for leading industry suppliers.  His qualifications include certificates in Training and Assessment, Live Production, Theatre and Events.  He also holds a forklift truck, boom elevated work platform and intermediate rigger/dogging licence.  Mal specialises in communication and media network designs and programming, pro audio system design, implementation, optimization and support.

Service & Repairs


Mel Hampton-Jones - Service Manager

Mel began his career over 30 years ago with his own business supplying production to bands and various audio and lighting companies.   The last 17 years have been dedicated to BSG, where Mel has worked with our hire, installation and service departments.   Mel has completed a course in Sound Engineering and holds an Elevated Work Platform ticket.  He brings to his current role as Service Manager a strong customer service focus, ensuring the client is presented with every option to make an informed decision.  Mel has a dedicated and holistic approach, ensuring a smooth flow of information to the customer.  His loyalty and practical experience are a valued asset.

Arthur Szilagyi - Electronic Engineer / Technician

Coming from a family background and passion for all things electronics, Arthur completed a Bachelor of Microelectronics Engineering in 2006 whilst commencing his career with BSG.  Arthur has extensive practical, programming/software and technical experience in maintenance and repairs of consumer and professional audio visual equipment.   Arthur holds his Electrical Contractors Licence and is certified to provide technical support for a number of brands BSG are warranty agents for.   Arthur’s experience and innovative thinking is an asset to both staff and customers alike.  His hands on approach to any situation ensure a positive outcome for the client. 


 


John Priest - Service Technician

From a very young age, John had a keen interest in electronics.  Coming into the industry through guitar amp building, he cut his teeth on domestic Hi-Fi and then extended into professional equipment.  John began his apprenticeship in 2001, and gained valuable experience in various workshops in New South Wales.  In 2008, John joined the BSG team and was integral in expanding our service based offerings to our clients.  John holds a Restricted Electrical Licence, and is certified to provide technical support for a number of brands BSG are warranty agents for.  John is well known for his straight-up, can do attitude, and is diligent in his approach to new challenges.
