Description

When they designed the S21, DiGiCo pulled out all the stops. A robust ARM quad-core RISC processor puts an abundance of power under the hood. Dual touchscreens supply intuitive tactile control and instant visual feedback. 24 mic/line inputs and 12 analog outputs give you enough I/O to get started, while dual DMI option card slots provide room for expansion. The S21 delivers 24-bit/96kHz digital audio for world-class sound and comes loaded with a complete arsenal of digital effects. A built-in 48-channel USB interface makes capturing any performance easy. Featuring an aerospace-graded aluminum extrusion and rugged polycarbonate overlay, the DiGiCo S21 is a full-featured digital mixer that's built for the road.

Dual touchscreens provide intuitive tactile control

The S21 employs dual state-of-the-art P-CAP touchscreens to provide instantaneous feedback and control on 20 simultaneous channels. And it's as easy to use as a smartphone. If you can drag, swipe, and drop, you can use the S21. Creating custom fader layouts is as simple as moving channels and buses across a touchscreen's surface. An interactive meter supplies you with at-a-glance access to information, while helpful color coding identifies channels, auxes, and groups. Visual feedback is reinforced with the encoder rings' HTL functionality, and anything not in use is automatically grayed out so you won't get distracted.

Having dual touchscreens gives you lots of visual real estate. You can view multiple channels simultaneously, or use one screen as a setup or master screen while working on the other. To tweak parameters on the S21's touchscreens, you use familiar pinch, touch, and drag gestures. Or if you want a more hands-on feeling, grab a rotary encoder to fine-tune your settings. Despite its drag-and-drop simplicity, the S21 gives you plenty of opportunities for customization. You can modify where channel banks are located, and mix and match any channel, aux, group, control group, or matrix within a bank.

Ultra-fast processing in a surprisingly compact unit

The DiGiCo S21 fits a whole lot of power into a surprisingly compact unit. A powerful quad-core SoC (System on Chip), associated with high-bandwidth memory, connects the S21 to a low-power 484-ball array FPGA. This then couples with fourth-generation control SHARC DSP. The SHARC processor not only controls the S21's FPGA, it also frees up processing power for future expansion. Beyond that, the S21 boasts low power consumption, despite its ultra-fast processing. At Sweetwater, we're shocked by the level of processing power going on under the S21's rugged polycarbonate surface.

Loads of expandable I/O

The S21 is loaded with I/O. It all starts with 24 mic/line inputs and 12 analog outputs. You also get two channels of AES I/O, word clock I/O, one GPI/GPO, a DVI output, and two Ethernet ports for networking. Beyond that, dual DMI (DiGiCo Multichannel Interface) option card slots supply you with plenty of room for expansion (modules sold separately). The S21 can accommodate just about everything — analog, MADI, Dante, Waves SoundGrid, Calrec Hydra2, and more — all your bases are covered.

Available DMI modules:

  • DMI-MIC
  • DMI-DANTE
  • DMI-HYDRA 2
