Description

The most powerful MADI & Dante digital audio interface available
The SSL UMD192 is a professional-grade USB audio interface engineered for demanding applications in live sound, broadcast, and studio production. This compact ½RU device bridges MADI, Dante, and USB protocols, enabling sophisticated signal routing and format conversion without compromise. Delivering up to 192 channels at 96/48 kHz or 128 channels at 192 kHz, it provides the channel density and sample rate flexibility required by high-specification installations. Built for portability and reliability, the UMD192 excels at multi-format integration, making it ideal for complex mixing scenarios, networked audio systems, and professional recording workflows.

The Perfect Bridge Between USB, MADI and Dante
The SSL UMD192 excels at multi-format audio integration, facilitating bidirectional communication across any two of its three supported protocols—MADI, Dante, or USB—while simultaneously distributing a secondary feed to the remaining format. This architecture proves invaluable for connecting legacy MADI systems into contemporary Dante infrastructures, or for managing extensive channel counts during recording and playback operations via USB 3.0. The flexible format bridging capability minimizes external conversion requirements, streamlining your signal chain across diverse professional audio environments.

The UMD192 integrates seamlessly into modern networked audio ecosystems with full Dante AoIP compatibility, AES67 interoperability, and ST 2110 support (including DDM functionality). Network latency reaches an exceptional 0.25 ms, critical for real-time applications. Clock synchronization derives from either MADI or Dante sources across the full 44.1–192 kHz sample rate spectrum. Six MADI BNC pairs enable dual-redundant configurations, providing three independent redundant connections ideal for mission-critical broadcast and live sound deployments where system reliability is non-negotiable.

The All-in-One Solution for Live, Broadcast and Studio

The UMD192 transcends traditional live sound applications, proving indispensable across broadcast, studio, and postproduction workflows. It pairs seamlessly with SSL System T consoles for music recording and mixing, serves as a native Dante interface for Harrison 32Classic systems, and provides format conversion for SSL Oracle or ORIGIN installations. Non-SSL console operators benefit equally from its exceptional connectivity and bridging capabilities. Whether deployed as a high-channel-count interface or format converter, the UMD192 maintains operational efficiency across diverse professional environments. Its compact, portable design and comprehensive format support ensure your signal chain remains flexible and prepared for evolving production demands.

Intuitive Front Panel Control
The UMD192 features an intuitive front panel with high-contrast status indicators providing instantaneous visibility into signal routing, sample rate synchronization, power state, and network health—essential feedback during high-pressure live and broadcast scenarios. Control lockout functionality safeguards your operational configuration by default, preventing inadvertent parameter adjustments. A dedicated padlock mechanism allows temporary unlocking for mode changes and reconfiguration when required, balancing accessibility with operational security.

  • Lockout – Press and hold to unlock other front panel controls. Press and hold until the red lock symbol in the centre of the circle in the indicator panel turns off
  • Mode – Press to cycle through the signal flow modes – Available when front panel is unlocked.
  • Clock source – Press to toggle between Dante and MADI as clock source – Available when front panel is unlocked.
  • MADI Redundancy – Press to toggle between MADI Redundancy on or off. Redundant mode applies to all MADI ports.  – Available when front panel is unlocked.

Flexible Power & Redundancy
The UMD192 accommodates three independent power delivery methods—AC mains, Power over Ethernet (PoE), and USB—enabling flexible deployment across diverse installation scenarios. Each source operates autonomously, while PoE combines with an external power supply to establish redundant power architecture. This multi-source approach ensures operational continuity in mission-critical environments where power interruption cannot be tolerated.

Compatible with Mac and Windows
The UMD192 achieves class-compliant operation, integrating directly with macOS Core Audio without requiring proprietary driver installation. Simply connect the interface, designate SSL as your audio device within System Settings, and commence operation immediately. This plug-and-play architecture proves invaluable in collaborative environments where guest engineers need rapid setup with minimal technical overhead—no software deployment or system configuration delays.

Windows deployment of the UMD192 requires the SSL ASIO driver, downloadable from the Solid State Logic Support portal. The multi-client architecture permits concurrent access from multiple ASIO applications, facilitating complex workflows where simultaneous audio routing across different software environments is essential.
