Description

The Royer Labs R-10-MP Large-Element Ribbon Microphone (Matched Pair) is a matched pair of passive large-element ribbon microphones designed to deliver smooth, full-range frequency reproduction and high SPL handling for musicians, recording engineers, and live sound mixers in home studios, recording facilities, and live stage applications. Hand-built in California, each mic features a high maximum SPL of 160 dB and a wide, un-hyped frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz. The R-10 utilises a standard XLR 3-pin output and does not require phantom power.

Its figure-8 polar pattern allows pickup of sounds from the front and back of the mic, while maximising sound rejection from both sides. This provides a directional focus in front of the microphone and allows room reflections behind the mic to be captured. The 2.5-micron aluminium ribbon element is protected from vibrations via an internal shockmount. A three-layer windscreen system tames plosives, strong bursts of air, and proximity-induced bass buildup. The wiring of the ribbon results in humbucking, which aids in preventing noise produced through electromagnetic interference.

The R-10-MP ships with two microphone holders, two mic socks, and a carrying case.

Key Features:

  • Figure-8 polar pattern picks up sound from the front and back of the mic and rejects sounds from the sides
  • High maximum SPL of 160 dB allows use on loud sources such as drums and electric guitars
  • 5-micron aluminium ribbon constructed with Royer's patented direct-corrugation process
  • 30 Hz to 15 kHz frequency response for full range without harsh high frequencies
  • Built-in windscreen system utilises three layers to protect against air blasts and plosives and reduce proximity effect
  • Internal shockmount isolates the ribbon from vibration and increases its durability
  • Open grille design reduces standing waves and comb-filtering effects
  • Custom-designed transformer minimises saturation even at high SPLs
  • Wired for humbucking to reject electromagnetically induced noise
  • Includes microphone holder, mic sock, and carrying case
  • Hand-built in Burbank, California
