Earthworks DM20 DrumMic Supplied With a Windscreen And RM1 RimMount
Description
There’s ‘solid’, then there’s ‘rugged’, and beyond that we start thinking about how well-contsructed Earthworks DM20 drum microphones are.
Here’s a quick snip from the Earthworks website:
“DM20 eliminates the gap between form and functionality, sparking new levels of performance. From the rich, mid lows to the crisp, airy highs, sacrifices in sound are a thing of the past with the DM20 condenser. And crafted out of stainless steel, its rugged build means it is equally at home on the road as it is in a studio”
What we think:
The moment you pull DM20 out of its box, you’ll feel what we mean above by being solid – this mic could almost be described as ‘industrial’. The gooseneck is also one of those “put it in position, and it’ll stay there” kind of arrangements.
DM20 can be popped on a stand (like just about any other instrument mic in existence) or… use the included RM1 (rim mount), to help keep a tight stage that little bit tidier.
With a massive 150 dB SPL handling, DM20 will cope with any drum source without overloading the capsule. The cardioid pattern is fairly tight, rejecting sound from surrounding sources.
Final word from Earthworks:
“Nothing compares to the lightning speed of the DM20. No smearing. No reflections. No unwanted coloration. Just a refreshingly crisp sound with every detail, every nuance, and every texture flawlessly intact that make your drums come to life.”
